About Us

What Makes PYGF Different than Other Youth Golf Organizations?

Our Mission: PYGF uses an inclusive approach to golf instruction to improve the lives of Pittsburgh’s city youth.

Did you know most Pittsburgh Public School students never get to experience playing golf, or even touch a golf club? PYGF helps inner-city youth benefit from the unique opportunity to experience the game to learn nine core values: integrity, confidence, responsibility, trust, respect, courtesy, equity, accountability, and the “edge” to compete in life.

We are the oldest youth golf program in the Pittsburgh area
All instructors are certified Tri-State PGA Professionals
All of our programs are free to all participants
Focused on inner-city youth 6th, 7th and 8th grades
An outstanding four-week Summer Camp program
We teach life skills--honesty, courtesy, behavioral skills, sportsmanship

OUR HISTORY

In 1991, Bob Yeager had a vision to create Pittsburgh Youth Golf Foundation (PYGF) and bring the game of golf to inner city kids who may never have the opportunity to play it. And so began the Pittsburgh Youth Golf Foundation, supporting 50 boys and girls from the Munhall and Homestead areas of Pittsburgh. PYGF provided busing, golf instruction and lunch at no charge to the students. Certified Tri-State PGA instructors provided golf instruction. In 1995, PYGF began its alliance with the Pittsburgh Public School System and the Tri-State Section of the PGA.

Today, PYGF continues our Spring Pittsburgh Public School golf programming as well as the Summer Golf Camp at Scally’s Golf Center, along with providing golf instruction to students at the Pittsburgh Public Schools City Connections Program.

"GOLF IS THE CLOSEST GAME TO THE GAME WE CALL LIFE. YOU GET BAD BREAKS FROM GOOD SHOTS; YOU GET GOOD BREAKS FROM BAD SHOTS - BUT YOU HAVE TO PLAY THE BALL WHERE IT LIES."

- BOBBY JONES
